Crown is one of Australia’s largest entertainment groups. It has businesses and investments in the integrated resort and entertainment sectors in Australia and Macau and wholly-owns and operates a high-end casino in London.

Needs

Crown required all staff to know what environmental sustainability looked like at Crown and what they could do as an individual to contribute to it. Staff had previously received this information face to face and there was a lot of content but not too much on the job behavioural change mixed in with the facts and figures. There was also the need for different languages in the solution and for it to be highly visual to meet different cultures and literacy needs.

Solution

We identified the key objective to be putting the right waste in the right bins and knowing why. That was the priority. So we designed a game that had the learner do just that. As the learner progressed the game got harder and the items were relevant to different parts of Crown depending on the role. Learners were able to choose their preferred language setting in Vietnamese and Mandarin to complete the learning.

Result

Crown Melbourne has generated 4 Environmental Sustainability online training modules customised for different areas of the business.  These include Food & Beverage, Cleaning, Housekeeping and all other Staff and Contractors.  More than 2000 staff and 400 contractors have completed the modules with the remaining 5000 staff and 2000 contractors to complete it by the end of 2014. All feedback received by both staff and contractors has been extremely positive.  The module is easy to understand and follow while the high-level of interactivity results in a positive experience for the user and a high retention rate. The ease of implementation and the high-level of positive staff feedback has meant that Crown are now looking at rolling out similar modules across our training portfolio as well as expanded it to other Crown Resorts’ properties.
